Why is nobody engaging in my Facebook Group?

Having been in the community space since 2013, I have had a lot of experience working with Entrepreneurs and business leaders who can see the value in building community but the question falls back to this, yes I see the value in building community but where should I build it?

Back in 2013 when I  wrote my book " How to make money from membership sites", I thought that everyone should have a membership site but through working with hundreds of clients and running a number of workshops, I discovered that a membership site is not necessarily relevant for every business.

I then moved on and started focussing on the Facebook Group.  Facebook changed their mission statement a couple of years ago and made it all about building meaningful relationships and they are pouring lots of resources into Facebook Groups, however again, a Facebook Group is not right for everybody and so if you don't do the foundational work, you may create a Facebook Group and it feels like no one is engaging.

If you watch the video , you will hear from me in more depth about why this might be but if you only have time to read this, here are my top reasons as to why no one is engaging in your group:-

  1. Your audience is not using Facebook. Facebook Groups are an awesome way to build community but if your audience aren't on Facebook or are very infrequent visitors, then your Facebook Group is not going to be engaged.
  2. If there is no engagement and your audience are on Facebook, then you have failed to identify the commonality which will connect each member and make them feel a sense of belonging, which is essential to community building. An real time example of this would be, if you are a dog owner, you will know that if you have a dog and you go for a walk, every other dog walker will speak to you. If you go out without a dog, no one will speak to you.  If you want a successful Facebook Group, you need to find the metaphorical "dog" for your members.
  3. Did you know that in a large community, typically 80% of members will be passive in their consumption of your content? By passive I mean, they are getting value from you but they don't show it. Later on they may well buy something from you because they have learnt to trust you but you may never know about them until then. There are ways to engage a passive audience, if that is something you are interested in, send me a message.

If this has been useful then I'm glad and if you do want to learn more about growing a profitable Facebook Group, you can access my online Facebook training here How to Grow a Profitable Facebook Group

Until next time, thanks for being here.

Take care
